Professor William Bill Ritchie

Senior Professorial Associate
Livestock Sciences

Prof. William 'Bill' Ritchie, blending agricultural roots with cutting-edge research, achieved acclaim at The Roslin Institute for his pioneering work in large animal surgery and embryology.

Notably, he led the team that produced Dolly the Sheep in 1996, the first mammal cloned from an adult cell. His contributions extended to transgenic mice, pigs, and sheep, marking him as a leader in reproductive science.

After earning a PhD in Hungary in 2007, Bill continued to make strides, collaborating on projects like the world’s first cloned camel in Dubai. His legacy was cemented with recognition as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Biology in 2015.

Now, as part of GLOSTA, he partners with Dr. Rajneesh Verma to bring cutting-edge livestock and agricultural sciences to the global south, fostering scientific, commercial, and community advancements.
